“Let the EU anti-corruption directive be approved quickly. Vital for democracy and economy”. Speech by the President of Anac Busia at the International Conference in Rome
“We strongly urge the European Community institutions to adopt an anti-corruption directive that constitutes effective progress in the fight against the phenomenon, introducing minimum standards of public integrity among member countries and preventive measures introduced by law. We hope that the negotiations will conclude soon, and that the resistance that has emerged in some countries can be quickly overcome."
Thus the President of Anac Giuseppe Busia spoke today 10 October 2024 at the International Conference in Rome on the EU anti-corruption directive and the prevention of corruption in Europe.
“All member states of the European Union must have coordinated tools to defend their institutions from the dangers of crime and maladministration. This is essential to strengthen our democracies, which are experiencing an alarming crisis of participation”.
The International Conference in Rome registered the participation of distinguished exponents of politics, law and academia from all over Europe. Filippo Patroni Griffi, judge of the Constitutional Court, spoke for Italy.
The Conference led to final conclusions, expressed in the words of the President of the Italian Anti-Corruption Busia.
“Fighting corruption is not only a matter of integrity and public ethics, but is also important to ensure economic growth and collective well-being. Indeed, as numerous estimates show, corruption causes significant material damage, as it wastes public resources, hampers development, reduces the effectiveness of government policies, undermines social cohesion by exacerbating inequalities and abuses and deeply erodes trust in public institutions", underlined the President of Anac.
“Strengthening the tools for preventing and combating corruption therefore represents a convenient choice for all EU countries, also from an economic and social point of view. Effective anti-corruption legislation at European level, to be applied in a targeted and selective way according to the specificities of each country, will lead to efficiency gains and direct material benefits, generating public value and improving the quality of life".
