Italy and United Arab Emirates: agreement to strengthen Anti-Corruption cooperation
Memorandum of understanding signed by ANAC and UAE Accountability Authority
The National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC) of Italy and the United Arab Emirates Accountability Authority (UAEAA) signed in Rome on July 29, 2025 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of corruption prevention.
The agreement marks a significant step forward in fostering collaboration between the two institutions, with a focus on sharing experiences, good practices, and undertaking joint initiatives to strengthen institutional capacities and promote integrity in public administration. These include sharing information and materials on anti-corruption laws, exchanging studies and analyses on how best to prevent corruption, and working together to promote transparency and strong ethical standards in public service.
The two authorities also plan to team up on professional training, host joint events and arrange exchange visits for their staff. In addition, they’ll be swapping innovative tools and strategies to help prevent and investigate corrupt practices more effectively.
"We are excited about this collaboration with the UAE Accountability Authority,” said Giuseppe Busia, President of ANAC. “This memorandum represents an important step towards achieving our shared goals and will also create new opportunities for cooperation within the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), of which both parties are active members".
Echoing this sentiment, H.E. Humaid Abushibs, President of the UAE Accountability Authority, stated: “We are confident that this collaboration will lead to significant results for both our organisations and the broader international community".
The MoU also provides for the development of joint projects and initiatives, with the flexibility to identify and explore additional areas of cooperation in the future.
Both ANAC and UAEAA are firmly committed to the implementation and regular evaluation of the initiatives outlined in the agreement, reinforcing their shared dedication to effective, long-term corruption prevention.
