EU Twinning in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Prevent and Combat Corruption
The EU twinning project in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been inaugurated: “Enhancing the capacity of the Agency to prevent and combat corruption”.
The coordinator of the project, assigned by the European Commission, is the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), with the Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) as a junior partner. The Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and anti-corruption experts from Austria, Germany and other European countries will also participate.
During the first meeting between ANAC, STT and the Bosnian institutions benefiting from the project, STT Deputy Director Elanas Jablonskas said: "This is already the eighth twinning project in which STT has participated - an acknowledgement of the work of the Service and of Lithuania itself. If we are to achieve significant results, we must employ a holistic approach to the fight against corruption. We must not only improve internally, but also share our experience and good practices internationally."
ANAC Secretary General Filippo Romano, the Project Leader, welcomed the opportunity to work together with STT, emphasising that ”involving more countries and exchanging good practices assures an exchange of diverse experiences. Over the years, ANAC has coordinated numerous twinning projects in the field of public integrity and anti-corruption, especially in the Western Balkans, which is a region of strategic interest for Italy and the European Union, with particular regard to the current pre-accession procedures.”
